Child Psychologist

Whose Who?

It is important to know, whose who in the medical team, that can help you and your child. This is a continuation from the earlier articles.

Always. keep an open mind. Although, the professional may know their job well, they may not know your child as well as you. That makes you a professional, where your child is concern. Be your child's advocate, speak for him. Have second opinions when needed, but my advice to you is to follow you gut.

As I am a passionate mother, but not working in the medical circle, I am furnishing you with details, I got from this great book.

Child Psychologist (Ph.D., Psy.D.)
A child psychologist can help you and your child cope with diagnosis, as well as work with her on social issues, frustration, impulsiveness, anxiety, and aggression- all of which may be related to CAS. He or she may or may not also do testing for cognitive and behavioral disorder such as ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, or mood disorders.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (M.D.)
A psychiatrist is a medical dcotor who has received specialized training in child/ adolescent development, behavior, and mental health. They are a great resource if your child has a co-occuring behavioral or mental health concern such as ADHD, an anxiety disorder, or obsessive disorder (OCD), among others. Unlike a psychologist, a child/ adolescent psychiatrist can prescribe medications to treat certain conditions.
