Educational Psychologists

Whose Who?

It is important to know, whose who in the medical team, that can help you and your child. This is a continuation from the earlier article.

Always, keep an open mind. Although, the professionals may know their job well, they may not know your child as well as you. Have second opinions when needed, but my advice, follow your gut.

As I am a passionate mother, but not working in the medical circle, I am furnishing you with details, I got from this great book.

Developmental Pediatrician (M.Ed., Ph.D., Psy.D.)
These professionals focus mainly on how students learn in educational settings. They study students attributes, instructional processes directly related to the classroom, how effective that education is, and the psychology of teaching. They might act as a consultant to a special needs teacher who is directly responsible for your child's education. Further, educational psychologists commonly administer IQ tests, as well as achievement tests and can diagnose ADHD, executive function problems, and learning disabilities, as well as autism. They can figure out whether a child's academic struggles are due to a disability, and whether difficulties communicating are due to cognitive problems. You may encounter this professional when your child is being evaluated for EI or special education.
